Here are a few tips to help you save money on your energy bills.
Today I’m excited to be on location at Phoenix Mechanical in Elmsford, New York, with principal Jon Nissman. Phoenix Mechanical is a full-service HVAC company that does installation, service, maintenance, home energy efficiency, plumbing, and more.
With gas and oil prices on the rise, many people are wondering how to lower their utility bills. Jon is here to talk about a few ways that homeowners can save money on their energy costs. Many people are running air conditioning equipment that is more than 20 years old. Old systems that haven’t been properly maintained can have issues like leaks in the refrigeration system, which causes the compressors to run 24/7 in order to keep the home cool. One way to prevent this is to be proactive in upgrading your AC equipment.

Speaking of gas and oil, be sure to upgrade an outdated gas furnace or boiler as well. If you use gas in your home, one way to offset your usage and cut costs is to supplement with an electric heat pump that heats in the winter and cools in the summer.
There are also new technologies in the market to consider. One super-efficient option is a mini split-heat pump with an inverting compressor. The inverter makes the unit fully modulating, giving you just as much energy as you need. Many mainstream manufacturers are now introducing them into their own equipment. In addition, some federal regulations mandate that manufacturers use efficient motors in. It seems that everything is trending toward energy efficiency these days.
