You might think every real estate agent wants you to sell your home, but I don’t. Sometimes, I meet with a homeowner, and I tell them they shouldn’t sell after we talk. Not because I don’t want their business, but because selling isn’t always the best decision. In real situations, keeping your home is the smarter, more financially sound choice. If you’re thinking about moving but not completely sure it’s the right time, this might help you see things differently.
Selling your home isn’t always the right move. When I sit down with a potential seller, the first thing I do is ask questions. Why do you want to sell? Where are you planning to go? What’s your mortgage rate? How will this move affect your monthly expenses and overall quality of life? These answers matter. Because even if the market looks strong, selling without a clear reason can lead to regret especially when the costs and stress of moving set in.
A real-life example of what staying can do. A few months ago, I spoke with a family I helped buy their home about seven years ago. They had a growing family and were thinking about upgrading. They had a great mortgage rate, loved their location, and were happy with their neighbors and school district. When I asked, “If your current home had the extra space you needed, would you stay?” they didn’t hesitate. The answer was yes. Because they’d built strong equity over the years, they could renovate and expand their home instead of selling. Now they have the space they need and get to stay in the place they love.
Sometimes, the best move is not moving at all. Real estate decisions are personal. They’re about lifestyle just as much as they are about dollars. I believe in helping people make the right choice, not just the easy one. And sometimes that means helping you stay right where you are, but in a better version of the home you already love.
